With some 225 million users, the company has been working to launch more features that keep people engaged with the site, returning to it more often, and staying with it longer. By appealing to humans’ natural curiosity, the “Who’s Viewed Your Profile” feature is a regular draw for those interested in their popularity or “findability” on the network, but it can also help you seek out new connections, discover mutual friends, or simply provide better insight into what people are searching for across LinkedIn.

Grumpy Cat goes from strength to strength
She is already an internet sensation with a book deal – and now a movie star in the making too. Let's hope she has thanked her agent.
Age: 1.
Appearance: Take a wild guess.
OK, I'm picturing a cat. Yes.
But it looks – how can I put this? – almost disgruntled. There you go.
What a funny idea! Many people think so. And this is a real cat. Her name is Tardar Sauce (a misspelling of tartar sauce, which she was said to resemble), and she lives with the Bundesen family in Arizona. She looks grumpy because her mouth is slightly deformed by a genetic disorder.

T. Rex Terrorizes Bridal Party: Best Wedding Photograph Ever?
Conceived by Louisiana photographer Quinn Miller for his friend James Lowder's wedding to Katie Young at the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana on Sunday, the image shows the terrified bridal party being chased by a massive T. Rex.
Miller tells Yahoo! Shine very few people at the wedding knew of his plan, but the bride and groom were both completely game. "After we took our formal pictures, we set up the shot. They [the wedding party] really sold it. They are what made it work."
He acknowledges that he has seen similar Jurassic-inspired pictures before, but he told io9.com that he thought he could could do a better job with the retouching: "I'm really picky about Photoshop."
Miller retouched and posted the photo on his Facebook page early Monday morning with the note "Things got really crazy at the Lowder wedding last night," and the image immediately went viral. He tells Yahoo! Shine has been shocked by all the attention. On Wednesday, he says he had doubled the 'likes' on his Facebook page, when the photo had received 800 'likes.' By Thursday morning, that number had more than quadrupled. One commenter, who attended the wedding, joked, "If you live in St. Francisville, only leave your house if necessary. Keep your eyes open." Another quipped, "Is that the mother-in-law?"

Google Copies Amazon's Playbook
SAN FRANCISCO—Google Inc. co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin say they don't pay much attention to rivals. But the search company increasingly appears to be following Amazon.com Inc.'s lead.
The latest example involves cable ties, AC-DC adapters, radiation detectors and the like. In April of last year, Amazon rolled out AmazonSupply, an e-commerce site featuring such industrial goods. Google followed suit this January, testing Google Shopping for Suppliers, which also helps shoppers find items tailored for businesses.

Yahoo buys Tumblr, promises to not 'screw it up'
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer promised Monday not to screw up Tumblr, the blogging site Yahoo purchased for $1.1 billion.
The deal, which had been rumored since last Thursday, will help Yahoo to tap into the younger, active online user base at Tumblr. But the deal raises concerns among some Tumblr fans that the site could end up being cluttered by the ads that brings in billions of dollars a year to Yahoo. Tumblr CEO and founder David Karp has resisted the use of traditional display advertising on Tumblr to this point.

Google Reader - at its' demise - what will be the outcome ???
What is Google Reader?.
for the people who don't know what Google Reader is.... ;)
"Google Reader is a content application and platform provided by Google that is an aggregator of content served by web feeds. It was created in early 2005 by Google engineer Chris Wetherell and launched on October 7, 2005, through Google Labs. Google Reader grew in popularity to support a number of apps which use it as a platform for serving news and information to people." Wikipedia(Google_Reader).
Google announced the discontinuation of the Google reader on March 13, 2013 stating the product had a loyal but declining following, and they wanted to focus on fewer products.:/
- The official Google Reader Blog - http://googlereader.blogspot.com/2013/03/powering-down-google-reader.html.
- This was due to a "cleanup process" according to Google Official Blog - http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-second-spring-of-cleaning.html
This step taken by Google, whether it is good or bad for Google's future (I don't think it will effect much),made the users of the Google Reader to look for alternatives for it.
Here is a list with reviews - alternatives-to-google-reader.
My Views on Google Reader...
Well, to be honest I never really used Google Reader.I was not very fond of it.I used mostly social networks.(because it was fun).I think I never really needed it because I had every update from a Facebook page or from twitter and of course it was more attractive.
Other peoples' views...
For the people who used it, it was the most popular RSS reader available before it's announcement of demise. They have used it in a daily basis to read the newest posts from the blogs they love, news and etc.
The overall view was a very positive one.But there were people who complained about the less attractiveness and some people disliked the recent updates on the interface.
Outcome...
The outcomes were natural "alternatives appearing in the web".
Some of these alternatives were a bit popular before. After the announcement, the most emerging service was feedly.
-------------------------------------------------------
Feedly said that more than 0.5 million new users had joined them in the following 48 hours, and 3 million in the following two weeks.
---------------------------------
And In response to the planned closure, Digg also announced plans to build a Google Reader replacement, rebuilding its API and adding features to take advantage of the implicit recommendations of social network activity.
Read More - http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57582173-93/digg-to-release-google-reader-replacement-beta-in-june/
---------------------------------
I found this very interesting...
Though more informed people seem to be treating the notion as speculative or wistful, it seems clear to me that Google GOOG +0.52% intends to deliver the underlying service of Google Reader in Google Plus. Instead of subscribing to the RSS, you simply follow the blog in question.* This makes sense and is the obvious evolution of Google Plus as your “Window to the World.”

So there you go... The funny thing is in this twist of Google now I'm using Feedly :)
I would like your ideas, opinions too comment and share.

List of the alternatives to Blogspot and Wordpress & reviews
Blogspot and Wordpress are the most popular free hosting sites in the web.But there are loads more hosting sites which are free and upcoming. So here are some of those sites for you.Check them too you might find them useful.
PROS
Good for visual blogs and posts with minimal text. Good for beginners. Free.
CONSInterface could be much more utilitarian. Limited design controls for semi-experienced bloggers. Light on page elements. Some learning curve (or "getting used to" curve at least). Tiny text field. Unique domain names must be registered with another provider.
CONSInterface could be much more utilitarian. Limited design controls for semi-experienced bloggers. Light on page elements. Some learning curve (or "getting used to" curve at least). Tiny text field. Unique domain names must be registered with another provider.
BOTTOM LINE
Tumblr, a free blogging platform and hosting service, is a decent place for beginners and microbloggers to get their feet wet and post rapidly, although a too-graphical interface will slow down anyone who's new to the site, and lack of fine controls will frustrate more experienced bloggers.
PROS
Almost no learning curve. Excellent for mobile blogging. Includes options for a paid domain name, right within sign-up process. Great for beginners. Integrates well with social media.
CONSLight on page elements. Can't preview when posting by email. Controls are fairly light or require CSS knowledge?not much in between.
CONSLight on page elements. Can't preview when posting by email. Controls are fairly light or require CSS knowledge?not much in between.
BOTTOM LINE
Posterous, a free blogging platform, is an ideal place for beginners and microbloggers to get their feet wet and post rapidly. Experienced bloggers should stick to some of the more difficult-to-master tools that offer more control.
- twitter.(if you think about it it's the same format).
PROS
The original microblog with the largest audience. Easy to get started.
CONSSome interface elements unclear, as is the help. No search for posts.
BOTTOM LINE
The first big microblogging/moblogging site, Twitter boasts the largest audience among sites of its ilk. But some of the finer points of its operation, and its help, could stand some improvements in usability.
Xanga originated back in 1999 as a site for sharing book and music reviews. Driven by member preferences, it quickly morphed into a full-scale blog site, but it retains a marvelous ability to share reviews. Just name the song, movie, or book that interests you and Xanga grabs a link to Amazon.com, including a thumbnail of the cover. Xanga aggregates the links into a Top 50 list. Click the xTools button in the Links toolbar to comment on the site you're visiting, or post to your blog via e-mail. The attractive, fully WYSIWYG editor permits easy insertion of smileys, symbols, and links, and it automates the process of uploading and including images. You can try a free Xanga site, then upgrade to get more features and no ads.
It's easy to locate like-minded people among Xanga's 2.5 million users by checking out its blog rings. Members with similar interests can subscribe to one another's blogs (when someone subscribes or unsubscribes, you're notified). Xanga also gives the ability to subscribe without notification, a way to try a blog without risking offending the blogger by unsubscribing. Visitors can comment on your posts or give "eProps" to especially good ones.
enjoy!

Google I/O 2013 Is All About Cleaning Up the Mess and Filling In the Gaps
Larry Page, Google co-founder and CEO, speaks during the opening keynote at the Google I/O developers' conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco on May 15, 2013 |
Google’s I/O conference keynote was, in many ways, the opposite of what we expected.
Google did not announce any new hardware — no new Nexus 4 phone, upgraded Nexus 7 tablet or new Chromebook — nor did the company reveal a new version of Android. Wilder rumors about an “X Phone” from Motorola and an 11-in. (28 cm) tablet from Samsung did not materialize.
Instead, Google spent about half of its annual developers conference focusing on, well, developers, and the tools they need to make better apps. The rest of the time, Google spent announcing improvements to core Web services, such as Search, Maps and Google+. The biggest new product launch was arguably Google Play Music All Access, a competitor to subscription services like Spotify and Rdio.
In other words, Google was less interested in wowing the crowds with flashy hardware and software news, and more interested in making itself look good.

Review alternatives to Google Reader
Google was planning to kill Google Reader as part of a “spring cleaning exercise”.So now we have to look for alternatives to it.First let me describe the features of the Google Reader.
Google Reader is a lot more than an RSS client. It syncs news feeds between different apps, and makes sure you can always pick up right where you left off. It’s also simple and free, which means it drove most competitors out of the market long ago. Once Reader dies July 1st, we’ll be left with apps that don’t rely on its backend to sync your feeds — which isn't very many apps. Various denizens of the internet and companies like Digg have volunteered to create new backends of their own, but for now, picking an RSS client you can trust means you’ll need one that doesn’t rely on Google Reader.
“Hearing that Google Reader is shutting down is like hearing that your favorite old bookstore is closing,” writes The New Yorker’s Joshua Rothman. So what are all the “absurdly ambitious readers” to do?.
So here are the alternatives to Google Reader for you -
Feedly has received mostly positive reviews. Many have praised its minimalist design and personalized interface. However, some have found the service relies too heavily on its minimalist approach, while others have stated that the degree of customization can be overwhelming for first time users.
NetNewsWire was well regarded by many users and reviewers. According to FeedBurner, NetNewsWire was the most popular desktop newsreader on all platforms in 2005. The software received a Macworld Editor's Choice Award in 2003 and 2005 and maintains a 4.8 out of five stars rating among reviewers at VersionTracker. Ars Technica calls NetNewsWire's built-in browser "hands-down the best of any Mac newsreader," and Walter Mossberg, technology columnist for The Wall Street Journal, says that NetNewsWire is his favorite for Mac OS X.
following an announcement by Google that they would be shutting down their popular Google Reader news reader service, NewsBlur's subscriber base immediately rose from about 1,500 users to over 60,000.
- A user-friendly web service.
- Lets you stay up-to-date with your RSS feeds.
- Resembles the old Google Reader interface.
- Lets you add friends and view the feed entries they shared.
Netvibes is a personalized dashboard publishing platform for the Web composed of widgets that are pulled from a widget list open to third party developers.
Pulse is an app for Android, iOS and HTML5 browsers, originally released in 2010. The application displays news from multiple RSS feeds in a single page using a tile based interface. Pulse has been praised by users for its sleek, easy to use design
Bloglines is a web-based news aggregator for reading syndicated feeds using the RSS and Atom formats. Users can subscribe to the syndicated feeds for free using a web browser. Bloglines offers an application programming interface that maintainers of web site can use to write software that can read feeds, search its database of feed entries, and ping the service when a website has been updated.
Good Noows is another app that takes your favorite feeds and organizes them into a special layout (although this time you get a choice of what layout!).
Good Noows is a personal news reader that pulls in your favorite news feeds to a layout of your choice. Some critics have touted the service as being a viable alternative to Google News whilst others say that Good Noows is a fresh face to your news.

Google launches on iOS via Google Search app
Google was previously only available on Android devices. Now it's finally available for iOS users. As an alternative to Apple's own personal assistant, Siri, Google Now offers detailed updates and information custom-tailored to you. The service is included as part of an update to the Google Search App.
Back-and-forth notwithstanding, iOS users can check out Now on iPhone and iPad after updating the Google Search app. Google Now uses "cards," synced with a Google account to provide updated info including flight schedules, dinner suggestions, and voice-activated search (obviously).
Zurker the next "facebook" ???
![]() |
See below to join a new social media site which will earn money for you in future Zurker is a fairly new site and it's join only by invitation click here to join. What’s so Special about Zurker? If I had to sum up Zurker in one word, it would be DEMOCRACY. Zurker is a member-owned social platform. This means that Zurker is not driven by a bunch of pimple-faced college kids that stand to make enormous amounts of money off collecting our private information and then selling it off to advertisers. The idea behind Zurker is simple and intriguing: let’s give the keys to the network to the members and let them decide what’s best for them.
To become a co-owner and an investor, all you need to do is to invite your friends to join Zurker. For each person referred by you, you earn a vShare. vShares are a stake in Zurker. One vShare is equivalent to ownership of 1/1,000,000 of Zurker. Now we are not talking about real shares of stock, since Zurker is not a publicly traded company – yet. When 1,000,000 vShares have been allocated, Zurker will be restructured as a public corporation and vShares will become real shares. Why would Zurker founders do that? In their own words:
Bottom line: you get to own a part of a social network just by doing what you are already doing, i.e. growing your social reach, networking with other members, and branding yourself and your business. I find this concept pretty interesting and attractive… Don’t you? |
